| Coach K! Talk Radio Show Afterthoughts
Donna Kristine Manley contacted me and made a request to be a guest on my show. She's the author of a wonderful book, 'Resumes For Children, 17 years Old and Under.' When Kris contacted me, I thought to myself. "oh boy, another pushy, hyper-driven woman ready to tell us mothers what to do with our children!" So I had a bit of a bias, to say the least.
Kris mailed me a copy of her book, and I was pleasantly surprised. Its a simple book that gives example after example of resumes and cover letters of all type, that children can use to build their own resumes. She outlines very normal activities that most children are already doing within school, family and community, but often bypass taking credit in.
The discussion was great with Kris. She was very inspiring and clear about her mission. A simple woman, like you and I, with an incredible focus and love in her heart.
After the show, I started thinking about the state of affairs with our children in this country. I have 3 peas of my own and sometimes, I get frightened and excited about the many choices that are out there in the world for them. I wonder, as a mom, how I can keep my children empowered and forward thinking in a such a dependent society. How can I strike that balance between showing them how to get along and go alone? How can I come up with innovative trappings to get my kids to buy into themselves before the outer world sucks them dry? Questions that drives me daily!
I recommend this book by Kris Manley as a healthy step to encourage kids to slow down , document and take pride in their achievements. To instill in them the creative steps it takes to shape, mold, and lay claim to the future they desire. So get the book!
